The Burleigh Pottery Story
From Clay to Cup...Pure English
Burleigh Pottery has a rich heritage of design and craftsmanship, and a fascinating story of collapse and revival. In the original 1889 Victorian factory, Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, Burleigh products are still hand made using timeless skills, including the decorating method of underglaze transfer printing from engravings.
This was once a common process in the English pottery industry, but is now extremely rare.
Many pieces, such as jugs, mugs, cups and saucers, bowls, plates, platters, and kitchenware are reissues from Burleigh archive moulds.
Patterns include Calico, Asiatic Pheasant, Arden, Regal Peacock, Burgess Chintz, Felicity, Prunus, Willow, Engravers & more. Although blue and white is Burleigh's speciality, there are other colours following contemporary trends, echoing the rich history of transfer printing which goes back to the 18th century.
Goldenberry Devonshire has pieces in stock in the US, ready to ship. Please contact us for availablity of their patterns.
